Privacy Policy
Follow My Astrolabe is made by Studio New Moon. The short version: it computes your birth chart and reads the sky on your own device. We don't run servers, we don't have accounts, we don't show ads, and we don't collect analytics. Almost everything this policy describes never leaves your phone.
Information the App Uses
Birth details you enter
Your name, birth date, birth time (or an approximate time window, if you don't know it exactly), and birth place are used to compute your natal chart — the core function of the app. This is done entirely on your device; nothing about your birth details is transmitted to us or to any server we operate, because no such server exists.
Looking up your birth place uses Apple's MapKit, which sends your search text to Apple's own map servers to find matching places and resolve the correct time zone — the same way typing an address into Apple Maps does. That exchange is between your device and Apple directly; we never see it, store it, or have access to it. Apple's own privacy practices govern that part of the lookup, described at apple.com/legal/privacy.
Your birth details are stored locally on your device only, and stay there unless you delete the app.
A profile photo, if you choose to add one
You can optionally add a photo of yourself, shown only within the app. It's selected through Apple's own system photo picker, which never gives the app access to your photo library as a whole — only the one image you actively choose. That photo is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded anywhere.
Location and motion, for the Sky feature
If you use the "point your phone at the sky" feature, the app reads your device's location (only while the app is in use) and motion sensors (compass and gyroscope) to figure out which part of the sky you're facing. This is computed and used entirely on-device, in real time, and is never stored or transmitted. If you decline these permissions, the app falls back to a manual slider instead.
Notification preference
If you opt in to being notified about a future feature launch (currently offered for the in-progress Tarot section), the app asks iOS for permission to send local notifications and remembers that you asked, stored locally on your device. This is a local iOS notification preference, not a push notification service — no token, device identifier, or contact information is sent to us or to anyone else as part of this. As of this writing, no notification has anything to actually send yet; opting in simply reserves your place for when it does.
Appearance and app settings
Things like your chosen color scheme, metal finish, font, and whether you've subscribed are stored locally so the app remembers your preferences between launches. None of this identifies you to us, because we never receive it in the first place.
What We Don't Do
- We don't operate a server that the app talks to. There is currently no backend of any kind — no account system, no login, no cloud sync.
- We don't use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We don't show ads, and we don't use any advertising or tracking SDKs.
- We don't sell, rent, or share your information, because we don't collect it in the first place — there's nothing to share.
- We don't use App Tracking Transparency because the app doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Third Parties
The only outside party involved in anything the app does is Apple, via MapKit (birth-place search, described above) and via the App Store itself (app distribution, and in-app purchases, if you choose to subscribe — handled entirely by Apple's own StoreKit; we never see or store your payment information). We don't integrate any other third-party service, SDK, or library.
Children's Privacy
Follow My Astrolabe is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone in that age group. Since the app collects no information from us in the first place, this is consistent with how the app works for every user regardless of age.
Your Choices
Because your information lives on your device rather than on a server we control, you're always in direct control of it:
- To remove your birth details, photo, or preferences: edit or clear them from within the app, or delete the app entirely — deleting the app removes everything Follow My Astrolabe stored on your device.
- To revoke location, motion, or notification permissions: use your device's Settings app at any time; the app degrades gracefully (a manual sky-pointing slider, or simply no future notification) rather than breaking.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds features that do involve a server, such as the friend-sharing feature described in our own product plans but not yet built — we'll update this document and its effective date before that feature ships, and describe plainly what's new.
